Pope John Paul's Visit to L.A.

September 21, 1987

All the preparations for the comfort and security of the Pope make me proud that I am an American. America with all its various ethnic groups--we are a loving people who put our best foot forward. Viva the United States--starting with the President who represented our country in welcoming the Vicar of Christ on earth, to the Marines at the helicopter, the protective security, all the way from the Secret Service, to our own Los Angeles smart-looking uniformed police, to the people that worked so hard to plan this huge undertaking involving so many people.

A perfect job was done by our city officials, Catholic Archbishop Roger Mahony, the people of our city and the media who made it possible to reach those that were unable to attend any of the functions.
