Musicians at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra refused to report to work Monday after management rejected an offer by American Federation of Musicians members to work under an existing contract, USA Today reported. Orchestra spokesmen said last year's $1.1-million deficit--among the highest in the nation--led to management's current decision to ask union musicians in the symphony to take an 11% pay cut.
