Boat racer Jim Kropfeld, who was hospitalized Sunday after his boat flipped during the unlimited hydroplane Gold Cup in San Diego, was released from San Diego's University Hospital. He had been held overnight for observation after complaining of a sore neck.

Kropfeld, the national champion from Cincinnati, said he planned to stay with friends in Newport Beach for several days before going to Las Vegas to drive Miss Budweiser next Sunday in the final race of the unlimited hydroplane season, the Silver Cup on Lake Mead.
