Radio station auctions are growing in popularity and frequency, according to a Baltimore auctioneering firm. Michael Fox Auctioneers sold three stations in 90 minutes last week, pending Federal Communications Commission approval of the new owners. Owners put their stations on the auction block, Fox told Electronic Media trade magazine, because they want a definite date of sale to report to stockholders, or to cheaply unload a "distressed" station.
