Schools and Tax Rebate

September 23, 1987

The decision by our governor and the Legislature to return the state's surplus revenues to the taxpayers is as shortsighted as it is politically self-serving. In their petty narrow-mindedness, our lawmakers missed a rare chance to establish a perpetual educational trust fund.

Quality in education over the past decade or two has been less than is deemed necessary and essential in a world where even developing countries' educational systems have become superior.

Our future lies in education. That's where we must invest.
