Jordan to Restore Libyan Ties

September 23, 1987|From Reuters

AMMAN, Jordan — Jordan has decided to restore diplomatic relations with Libya, broken since crowds burned down the Jordanian Embassy in Tripoli in February, 1984, the official news agency Petra reported today.

Petra said the decision to renew ties with Libya was in line with "Jordan's firm commitment to the higher interest of our Arab nation." The news agency said the decision was made at a Cabinet meeting chaired by King Hussein. The Cabinet discussed preparations for an Arab summit to be held in Amman on Nov. 8 to discuss the Iran-Iraq War.
