September 24, 1987

Business and civic leaders were welcomed into new volunteer posts of the 1988 Music Center Unified Fund Campaign at a reception Tuesday evening at Lawry's California Center.

Campaign '88 hopes to raise $13 million for the Music Center's resident companies: the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Center Theatre Group, the Los Angeles Music Center Opera, The Joffrey Ballet, the Los Angeles Master Chorale and the Music Center Education Division. Last year's goal was $12.3 million and was exceeded by $400,000.

Among those who will be working on the campaign are Roger Kozberg, who joins Peter Barker as vice chairmen of the fund's executive committee. They will guide the overall fund drive with Robert Smith, who is entering his second year as Campaign '88's chairman, and Joseph Pinola, honorary chairman.

New to the Chairman's Council are David Anderson, Roy Anderson, Lloyd Cotsen, John Grundhofer, Philip Hawley, Martin Melone, Allen Questrom, Clifford Miller, Martin Rayner and Richard Stegemeier.

New members of the Cabinet are Sheldon Ausman, Robert Bachelis, John Bolin, Craig Campbell, William Carter, Ernest Ellison, James Farley, Gerald Foster, Harry Hufford, Jerve Jones, Peter Keller, Lawrence Kitchen, Cleon Knapp, James Lewin, Takashi Maruyama, Thomas McCaffrey, David McIntyre, Robert Mettler, Donn Miller, Marshall Milligan, Diane Morton, Ronald Olson, David Percelay, John Bryson, Alan Rothenberg, Keith Russell Jr., John Singleton, Robert Weingarten, Walter Weisman and Robert Wycoff.

F. Daniel Frost, chairman and CEO of the Music Center Board of Governors, announced a contribution of $500,000 from Dorothy Buffum Chandler, who traditionally gives the lead gift for the fund drive. Frost also reviewed some of the Music Center's recent accomplishments, ranging from the Lillian B. Disney gift of $50 million to the opera's second season.
