Placentia City Councilman George Ziegler has been elected president of the Orange County League of Cities, a nonprofit organization representing the county's 26 cities.
Ziegler, a Placentia businessman, has been on the council since 1982. He succeeds Anaheim Councilman Irv Pickler, who, as immediate past president, will become a member of the league's Governing Board.
Other new officials are San Juan Capistrano Councilman Phillip Schwartze, first vice president; Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Pat McGuigan, second vice president; and Newport Beach Mayor Pro Tem Evelyn R. Hart, state league director. Hart will represent Orange County on the league's 37-member state board.
Ziegler, who was elected at the league's meeting earlier this month, will assume office with other new officers at the league's annual conference in San Francisco on Oct. 4.
