Sheriff's Deputies Kill Two Pit Bulls

September 28, 1987

Sheriff's deputies shot two pit bull dogs to death Sunday when the animals advanced on them after killing a German shepherd dog in Valinda.

Deputy Steve Lee said deputies investigating a report of pit bulls attacking another dog in the 14400 block of East Fairgrove Avenue found the German shepherd already dead.

Lee said the deputies and their field supervisor opened fire when the pit bulls advanced on them, killing one of the dogs immediately and wounding the other, who died a quarter-mile away in a yard next door to the home of its owner in West Covina.

It was the second shooting of dogs by deputies during the weekend.
