September 29, 1987

A 48-year-old Simi Valley man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car in Canoga Park, authorities said Monday.

California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Young said the accident occurred about 8:30 p.m. Sunday on Topanga Canyon Boulevard about 100 yards south of the Simi Valley Freeway. The motorcyclist was headed north on Topanga Canyon in a southbound lane and collided head-on with a Volkswagen driven by Celeste Nelson, 41, of Sylmar.

It was not known why the motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was driving on the wrong side of the street, Young said.

The victim's name was being withheld until relatives could be notified. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Nelson and her two passengers, who were wearing seat belts, received minor injuries and were treated and released at West Park Hospital in Canoga Park.
