The Nation

September 29, 1987

A jury in New York awarded model Marla Hanson, 26, more than $78 million in damages against three men convicted in the slashing of her face with razor blades. Hanson's lawyer, Michael Shannon, acknowledges that the three imprisoned defendants--Steven Roth, 28, Steven Bowman, 27, and Darren Norman, 21--are broke. However, Shannon said, the judgment is in effect for 20 years, and if any of them come into money, it will belong to her. Each defendant is serving five to 15 years on first-degree assault convictions in connection with the 1986 attack.
