Ailing former bandleader Woody Herman's financial difficulties brightened Wednesday when his supporters announced that $70,000 in cash donations have been collected to cover his daily living expenses. Supporters also unveiled plans for an Oct. 23 fund-raising concert at UCLA's Wadsworth Theater. The concert, sponsored by KKGO-FM, will benefit Herman and other deserving jazz musicians through the "Woody Herman Tribute Trust Fund." Herman was almost evicted from his Hollywood Hills home last month by a landlord who acquired it in an Internal Revenue Service auction.
