1-Year-Old Anaheim Child Killed When Uncle Backs Car Over Him

October 01, 1987

A 1-year-old Anaheim boy was killed when his uncle accidentally backed a car over him as he played in a driveway late Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police Lt. Jack Parra said Paila S. Lomu was flown by air ambulance to UCI Medical Center but was dead on arrival following the 5:51 p.m. accident.

Parra said the boy had last been seen playing in a grassy area away from the driveway during a family gathering on the front lawn of his uncle's house at 2669 W. Yale Ave.

The uncle, Ota Lomu, 37, was backing his car out of the driveway when the left rear wheel ran over the child, Parra said.

The uncle was not cited or held pending further investigation, police said.
