Miller Brewing Co., a major sponsor of National Football League telecasts, announced that it is pulling its television commercials from this weekend's pro football lineup. Miller is one of several regular NFL sponsors, including the three major U.S. auto makers, that have notified the networks that they don't want their ads on telecasts of games being played by replacements for striking NFL players. Kevin Monaghan, a spokesman for the NBC television network that plans to broadcast one NFL game in each market on Sunday, confirmed that "there have been some defections" among regular NFL advertisers.
