OUTTAKES

IN THE MOVIES

October 04, 1987|David Pecchia

Seems like Siskel & Ebert can't take in a movie anymore without seeing their own show parodied on the big screen. In recent months, "Hollywood Shuffle," "Summer School," "Will Vinton's Claymation Festival," "Back to the Beach" and "Amazon Women on the Moon" have gibed at them.

We know--because their office called to make sure.

Generally, Siskbert doesn't enjoy being spoofed. Ebert (the husky one) told us he feels "self-conscious and I don't know exactly how to react." Siskel added, "I don't take it as a compliment."

But: "I love Claymation," said Ebert, who chose the Will Vinton spoof as his fave. "Gene was this horned dinosaur and we got into a fight and I dumped a bucket of popcorn on him." Siskel concurred, noting that the Claymated Ebert resembled "an overfed Cabbage Patch doll."

Ebert closed with a monstrous thought: "I expect someday to get ripped off in a porno movie, and I can't imagine what our reviews will look like then."
