October 05, 1987

Roh Tae Woo, the presidential candidate of South Korea's ruling Democratic Justice Party, took to the streets of Seoul for what aides said was the start of his full-scale campaign. Roh, accompanied by party lawmakers and other supporters, shook hands and chatted with voters during a visit to a marketplace in the capital. Previously, Roh had limited his campaign to public speeches and formal meetings with supporters. Meanwhile, the opposition Reunification Democratic Party remained split over whether its candidate should be Kim Dae Jung or Kim Young Sam.
