Tennis Roundup : Edberg Win Clinches It for Sweden

Sweden qualified for its fifth straight Davis Cup final with a 3-2 semifinal victory over Spain on Monday at Barcelona.

Stefan Edberg gave the Swedes an insurmountable 3-1 lead when he defeated Emilio Sanchez, 6-4, 8-6, 6-4, in a match postponed from Sunday.

After Edberg's victory, Sweden's Jan Gunnarsson was allowed to replace Mats Wilander in the final singles, and he lost to Sanchez's younger brother, Javier, in a best-of-three match, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 .

Sweden will meet India in the Davis Cup final at Goteborg, Sweden, Dec. 18-20. India surprised defending champion Australia, 3-2, in the other semifinal.

At Scottsdale, Ariz., 15-year-old amateur Michael Chang upset eighth-seeded Jay Berger, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round of a $303,400 WCT tournament.

Chang, a student at Valencia High in Placentia, is ranked 479th in the world.
