MORNING REPORT

Pop Lp Chart

October 09, 1987|DENNIS HUNT | Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

"Actually," the new album by the popular Pet Shop Boys, is shooting up the Billboard magazine pop LP chart, propelled by the group's hit single, "It's a Sin." The album is No. 37 and the single is No. 19. Aerosmith's "Permanent Vacation" (No. 21) looks like the band's biggest hit since its heyday in the late '70s. Yes' album "Big Generator" debuted at No. 61. Michael Jackson's "Bad" is the No. 1 album for the fourth consecutive week. Lisa Lisa's "Lost in Emotion" took over top spot on the pop singles chart. It's her second No. 1 in a row ("Head to Toe" was the pop-singles champ a few months ago). Hot singles: Madonna's "Causing a Commotion" (No. 5), Bruce Springsteen's "Brilliant Disguise" (No. 20) and "(I've Had) the Time of My Life" (No. 25) by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.

* Kiss, the flashy glam-trash hard-rock band that everyone had given up for dead a while ago, is still quite alive. Its new album "Crazy Nights" has jumped to No. 24 in just two weeks on the chart.
