October 11, 1987|Associated Press

HANOVER, West Germany — Two East German men climbed over their communist homeland's border barriers and fled to West Germany, officials said last week.

The escape, about 120 miles southeast of Hanover near the town of Osterode, apparently went unnoticed by East German border guards, police said.
