KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii — Dave Scott of Davis, Calif., won his sixth Ironman Triathlon World Championship here Saturday, after rival Mark Allen faded during the marathon run.
Scott's time for the 140.6-mile endurance test was 8 hours 34 minutes 13 seconds, about 5 1/2 minutes off his record time of 8:28:37 last year.
Allen, who had a 4 1/2-minute lead over Scott at the 16-mile mark of the 26.2-mile marathon, held onto second place with an 8:47:30 finish.
Greg Stewart of Geelong, Australia, was third in 8:58:52, with Mike Pigg of Arcata, Calif., fourth in 9:02:43. Next came Ken Glah of West Chester, Pa., in 9:05:13 and two-time winner Scott Tinley of Encinitas, Calif., in 9:08:37.
