BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox announced Thursday an 81-game home schedule for the 1988 American League season, opening with Detroit's defending East Division champions on April 4 and ending with 1987 runner-up Toronto on Sept. 28.

In announcing the schedule of 46 night games and 35 day contests at Fenway Park, the Red Sox also reported that ticket prices would remain the same as in 1987. Tickets for the 1988 season, the club said, will go on sale in early December.

The April 4 start marks one of the earliest Boston openings in recent years. And, for the first time since 1982, the Red Sox will end the season on the road, closing on Oct. 2 in Cleveland.

The schedule includes 13 games in April 14, 14 in May, 13 in June, 14 in July, 14 in August, and 13 in September.

The Red Sox will play Texas in a traditional Patriots' Day morning game on April 18. However, they will be on the road for games on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day.
