The Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert A. K. Runcie, has asked Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi to help find Anglican envoy Terry Waite, who vanished Jan. 20 while on a mission in Lebanon to help free Western hostages, the Church of England said in London. Runcie sent Kadafi a letter last month after learning that the Libyan leader apparently had expressed concern about Waite, the archbishop's office said. Runcie reportedly wrote Kadafi that "any steps you can take to ensure his (Waite's) safe return will earn the sincere gratitude of the Church of England."
