Prairie Rose by Another Lane Will Smell as Sweet

October 15, 1987|Associated Press

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — A rare rose blocking construction of a $417-million freeway link has been transplanted from a wetlands area, authorities said.

A crew on Tuesday removed a cluster of Michigan prairie roses from the site of the last leg of Interstate 696, which will connect Macomb and Oakland counties.

The Michigan prairie rose only grows in nine southern Michigan counties; its pink flowers bloom from May to July.
