In spite of unexpectedly fierce opposition, there will be a Jackie Gleason Park in Lauderhill, Fla. Mayor David Kaminsky was opposed to naming the park after the Great One, saying: "Jackie Gleason never paid any mind to children in Lauderhill. As a matter of fact, he never paid any mind to Lauderhill at all." Nonetheless, the City Council voted 3-2 to name a new three-acre park after the late TV star. Residents blocked an earlier proposal to rename Inverrary Drive for Gleason because they thought their postal service would be disrupted.
