CHICAGO — A 50-year-old man who was staying with a nun who took in into her home as an act of charity was charged Friday with her murder, police said.
Karl Caldwell told police he beat Sister Miriam Friday after an argument over money and his cleanliness, Sgt. Raymond Gawne said.
Caldwell was charged with murder and the theft of $35, Gawne said, and was being held pending a court appearance.
The body of Sister Friday, 50, dressed in street clothes, was found in her bathtub Thursday by a janitor who had received complaints that water was leaking from her second-story apartment to apartments below, police said.
