Gay March

October 22, 1987

I raise my hat to The Times for its sensitive coverage of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in general and, in particular, for its prominent use of a photograph of two men expressing their grief upon recognizing the name of a friend on the unveiled AIDS memorial quilts.

Not only was that photograph a moving epitaph to the tens of thousands who already has succumbed to AIDS related illnesses, but it was a powerful reminder that, despite all the political debate and rhetoric shrouding the AIDS issue, individually we are all very vulnerable to this dreaded virus and its effects.

No one will be a winner in this battle until a preventive agent to the HIV virus is found.
