October 23, 1987

South Korea recorded a $1.27-billion trade surplus in September, putting the total for the year so far at $6.93 billion, the Bank of Korea said. The monthly figure, which was boosted by soaring exports and increased tourism earnings, was South Korea's biggest monthly surplus, showing that the country's vibrant economy has weathered a wave of summer strikes. The $6.93-billion figure compares to a $2.48-billion surplus for the first nine months of 1986.
