Awash In Anchors?

October 24, 1987

Quote of the week from Frank Capra, news director at Channel 4 ("For Marlow, Local News Is Still Worth Taking Seriously," by Steve Weinstein, Oct. 22):

"We have an embarrassment of riches in anchor people at KNBC, and we figure the more we get on the air, the better off we are."

What is he talking about?

Actually, you can't tell the news readers (which is what they are) without a program anymore since they keep switching from one network to another and are clones of each other. Same boring news and even more boring faces night after night.

The best news program is still the "MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour" on KCET-Channel 28. No chitchat while viewers wait for them to get on with the news--just straight reporting.
