BEIJING — Hundreds of cheering bicyclists snarled traffic on the city's main thoroughfare today in a spontaneous rally celebrating the national soccer team's capture of a berth in the Olympic Games.

China, playing in the Olympic qualifying finals for the first time, defeated Japan 2-0 in Tokyo today. The stream of bicycles, moving six to 10 abreast with many carrying two riders, filled broad Changan Boulevard.
