SEVILLE, Spain — Titlist Gary Kasparov and challenger Anatoly Karpov agreed to a draw Monday after 28 moves in the sixth game of their world chess championship match.

Kasparov, playing with the white pieces, offered the draw. He had begun the game with the English opening.

The score now stands 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 in Karpov's favor. Karpov won the second and fifth games of the match.

The winner of the 24-game contest will be the first man to score 12 1/2 points or achieve six victories. A win counts one point and a draw half a point. In the event of a 12-12 tie, Kasparov will retain his title.
