Michaelson implied that HUAC chairman J. Parnell Thomas did not allow any of the "unfriendly" witnesses to read their prepared statements.

In fact, Thomas, for reasons unknown, allowed the third "unfriendly" witness, Albert Maltz, to read his entire statement, and the fourth "unfriendly" witness, Alvah Bessie, to read four paragraphs (about half) of his.
