Israel's Justice Ministry ordered police to investigate charges that Trade and Industry Minister Ariel Sharon channeled money and contracts illegally to political allies, the Jerusalem Post reported. Justice Ministry officials confirmed the report in general but refused to provide details. A Sharon spokesman said he denied the allegations. The newspaper said police will investigate whether Sharon channeled $150,000 to Herut Party colleague Shmuel Shevah from a Trade Ministry fund and granted licenses for importing iron to Yacov Elbaz, a member of the Herut Central Committee.
