With Dickerson Trade and Irvin Suspension, Mediocrity Is Attained

November 07, 1987

I'm sitting here staring at the headline that says Eric Dickerson is traded and I just can't understand how the Rams could let this happen. Gone is the one player you could truly call the best at his position, the home run threat most teams only dream of, and the most exciting player in my 20 years as a Ram fan.

Granted, Eric is your average, greedy, spoiled, disloyal pro athlete, but he's nothing more than a product created by pro sports owners, the media, college athletic programs, and us, the fans that support this whole circus.

In this day of the $500,000 signing bonus, I don't believe $1 million will make or break the Rams. I do believe that Eric Dickerson made this team competitive, exciting and kept it in the game. His departure will break one of the best Ram teams ever.
