Carlsbad

November 08, 1987

A Carlsbad man flying an experimental airplane across the country to benefit the American Cancer Society made an emergency landing Saturday near Long Beach, Miss., officials there reported.

The pilot, Paul McShane, president of Phoenix Aviation in Carlsbad, landed his single, rear-engine plane on Interstate 10, east of Baton Rouge, La., when his engine began misfiring because of a clogged fuel line, officials said.

McShane, en route from Carlsbad to Jacksonville, Fla., repaired the malfunction at the scene and took off from the freeway, authorities said.
