The United States beat Europe, 10-2, to win the $950,000 World Championship of Golf at Inagi, Japan.

Australia-New Zealand beat Japan, 9-3, and finished third among teams representing the four Professional Golf Assn. tours.

The Americans took a 6-2 lead after four matches. After Mark Calcavecchia lost to Europe's Sandy Lyle, 70-72; Payne Stewart defeated Ian Woosnam, 70-72; Lanny Wadkins beat Bernhard Langer, 70-71, and Scott Simpson defeated Nick Faldo, 68-72.

Curtis Strange, leading U.S. money winner, clinched the victory by beating Ken Brown, 70-71.
