Artist Max Neuhaus' untitled "aural art installation" celebrated its 10th year this week in New York--under a grate in the middle of a traffic island in Times Square. The device, installed in an abandoned ventilation chamber, uses electronic sound generators linked to a loudspeaker that resonates to the exact frequency in the chamber. The result: a meditative drone that takes more than a day to repeat itself. At a small ceremony commemorating the piece's anniversary, Neuhaus said he expects it to last "another 50 decades."
