Southern Section Tennis : Laguna Hills Girls Advance to Semifinals

Laguna Hills High School advanced to the 3-A Southern Section girls' tennis semifinals with a 13-5 victory over Hart Tuesday in a quarterfinal match at Laguna Hills.

The doubles teams of Katrina Heppler-Mai Nguyen and Susi Kim-Sharron Oh earned sweeps for Laguna Hills (21-0). Hart ends the season 19-3.

Laguna Hills plays Agoura in a semifinal Thursday.

In 4-A quarterfinal matches:

Miraleste 12, Capistrano Valley 6--Capistrano Valley lost to top-seeded Miraleste (16-0) at home. For Capistrano Valley (14-3), Jill Linhart and Dana Foster won two of three sets, as did teammates Cory Emmons and Michelle Foster.

Corona del Mar 13, Palos Verdes 5--All three of Corona del Mar's singles players--Danielle Scott, Robin Bain and Kristy Phebus--swept their matches. Corona del Mar (19-2-1) will play Los Angeles Westlake Thursday.

Rolling Hills 11, Edison 7--Nikki Turner and Jenny Golfos swept in doubles and Debbie Goldberger took two of three sets in a losing effort for Edison (19-3). Goldberger finished the season 55-2.

In a 2-A quarterfinal:

Valencia 13, Whitney 5--Singles players Diane Ewing and Julie Williams and the doubles team of Diane Stoll and Stacy Zirwas all swept to lead Valencia (18-5) at home.

Valencia advances to a semifinal against San Luis Obispo Thursday. Whitney ends at 14-1.
