Marmonte Teams Step to the Fore in Volleyball Playoffs

November 12, 1987|CHRIS J. PARKER

It has taken two months and almost 20 playoff matches for the Southern Section to determine what the Marmonte League knew all along--when it comes to girls volleyball in the 2-A Division, nobody can beat Ventura County volleyball.

Three of the four teams playing in tonight's semifinal round of the playoffs are from the Marmonte League.

Thousand Oaks, the Marmonte champion and top-ranked team in the division, plays Atascadero at Newbury Park High. Royal and Newbury Park, which finished second and third in league play and are ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in the division, play at Westlake High.

Two other Valley-area teams have advanced to the semifinals. Agoura, the No. 2 team in the 3-A Division, plays Los Altos at Diamond Bar. San Gabriel and Nordhoff play in the other semifinal.

Village Christian plays Ontario Christian at Chino in a 1-A Division semifinal match. St. Anthony and Maranatha meet in the other semifinal.

All matches begin at 7:30 p.m.

The championship matches in all six Southern Section divisions are scheduled for Saturday at Marina High in Huntington Beach.
