November 13, 1987

The federal government has awarded $400,000 to the Department of Health Services in Los Angeles County to help finance its AIDS service project.

The money is part of $10 million in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grants to 13 demonstration programs across the nation to provide community-based services for patients suffering from AIDS and AIDS-related disorders.

"By emphasizing care based in community and outpatient settings, these projects are intended to provide comprehensive care while reducing patients' hospital time and costs," a federal official said.
