November 15, 1987|Associated Press

BANGKOK, Thailand — American philanthropist and businessman David Rockefeller on Saturday announced creation of a $2-million fund to support the work of winners of the Magsaysay Award, Asia's equivalent of the Nobel Prize.

The announcement came at the conclusion of a three-day meeting of about 90 past Magsaysay winners from 20 countries.

The award was established by the Rockefeller brothers in 1957 to honor individuals and organizations "exemplary of the ideals and spirit of service personified by (the late Philippine President) Ramon Magsaysay."
