Raveling Sees Enough: USC Intrasquad Game Ends in a 44-44 Tie

November 15, 1987|MAL FLORENCE

Did you ever hear of a tie score in a basketball game? It happened Saturday at the Sports Arena.

The Cardinal and Gold teams of USC tied, 44-44, in a public intra-squad scrimmage. USC Coach George Raveling canceled the overtime session.

Raveling introduced 10 new players to a crowd of 3,136--larger than some crowds that watch USC during the regular season.

Admission was free, so that might have been a factor.

Guard Anthony Pendleton, from Flint, Mich., made 4 of 7 three-point shots and finished with 14 points to lead all scorers. Guard Rich Grande, one of four returning regulars from last season's team, was 3 for 4 from behind the three-point line.

Raveling said: "I think we have better speed and outside shooting than we did last season, and considering all the new players we have, I think we've come a long way since the start of fall practice."

In addition to Pendleton, high scorers were forwards Chris Moore and Chris Munk with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Trojans will play the Bulgarian National team Monday night at 7:30 at Chapman College in Orange.
