Southern Californians who suffered uninsured losses in the Oct. 1 earthquake and aftershocks have until the close of business Dec. 7 to apply for help at disaster centers in Whittier and Los Angeles or by telephone, officials said Monday.
The centers are in the Whittier Quad Mall at 8442 Quad Way and at the Harvard Recreation Center, 1535 West 62nd St. in Los Angeles. The offices are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Charlie Raudebaugh, a spokesman for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said people may also register for help by calling (800) 338-7693 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Earthquake victims eligible for assistance from the special state aid package signed by Gov. George Deukmejian Saturday must register with FEMA by the Dec. 7 deadline. Those already registered with FEMA do not have to register again, Raudebaugh said. So far, 23,730 people have formally requested assistance, officials said.
