Apple & the Frog Ad

November 21, 1987

Jenifer Graham, the "Frog Advocate," has every right to push her argument in any forum she can find.

If Apple Computers had any history of advocacy for animal rights (or any believable commitment to that cause), it might not appear to be engaged in mere cynical exploitation of the issue.

A news story about Jenifer is one thing. The commercial exploitation of animal rights and the mock-pious invocation of constitutional law in an advertisement the sole purpose of which is to sell Apple Computers is enough to make me throw up.

Next, the ad agency BBDO will do a "constitutional law" ad for Trojans (right to privacy) and another for the Roman Catholic Church (right to life). Maybe BBDO would like to advocate bombing abortion clinics? Let's see if we can get the country thoroughly divided and at war, shall we, BBDO?

It's called venality run riot.
