The following profiles of Orange County community colleges were developed to assist high school seniors planning to attend college in the fall. Growing requests by residents to attend colleges/universities in California has impacted on the University of California and the California State University system's ability to accommodate prospective freshmen.
According to community college officials, senior high school students are being encouraged to attend two-year institutions before seeking admission to four-year colleges/universities. Increased enrollment (from 1986 to 1987) at community colleges is expected to continue into the next decade, officials said.
Previous enrollment declines were attributed to the 1983 tuition imposition, changes in programs due to funding cutbacks, increased number of students attending four-year institutions and the decline in the unemployment rate.
