Spruce Felled in Ohio for White House Christmas

November 21, 1987|United Press International

MARIETTA, Ohio — A 55-foot spruce tree planted by homesteaders was felled Friday and will be taken to the White House to be decorated for the Christmas season.

Descendants of the farmers who owned the land on which the tree grew in southeastern Ohio, along with local officials, made the first cuts before workers finished the task with a cross saw.
