The Ninth Theater Festival in Villahermosa, Mexico, opens today, presenting 38 plays by Mexican playwrights and several international works through Dec. 3. Sponsored by the National Institute of Fine Arts, the event spotlights works by playwrights from each of the country's 31 states, as well as Mexico City.

Director Terry Gilliam was not fired from "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" as reported Monday. Film Finances Inc., "Munchausen's" completion bonding company threatened to fire and replace Gilliam because he was behind schedule and the film was running over budget.
