James M. Greenfield Jr., 51, will join the staff of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian of Newport Beach next month as senior vice president for capital development and community relations.
Greenfield succeeds Suzanne Schwellenbach, who will continue as director of Hoag's cancer center fund-raising campaign until the end of January, after which she will devote her time to her private fund-raising consultation business.
Schwellenbach said Greenfield's first priority will be "to develop a strategic plan for fund raising for the hospital." She said the planning effort will probably focus on expansion of the hospital's heart surgery program.
Hoag's generates more money through its fund-raising efforts than most other hospitals in the state, generally providing half to two-thirds of the funds needed to pay for capital expansion and equipment, Schwellenbach said. The remainder of expansion costs are paid for with Hoag's operating revenues.
