SEVILLE, Spain — The 16th game of the world chess championship was adjourned Monday with challenger Anatoly Karpov a pawn ahead in an endgame against Gary Kasparov.
Experts said Karpov has a good chance to win the position when play resumes today. A victory would enable him to even the score in the match.
After 15 games, Kasparov leads, 8-7, with three wins, two losses and 10 draws.
A player needs 12 1/2 points or six victories to win the 24-game series.
