Indiana Reprimands Bob Knight

November 24, 1987|Associated Press

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University basketball coach Bob Knight has been "strongly reprimanded" by IU President Thomas Ehrlich and Athletic Director Ralph Floyd for pulling his team off the court during an exhibition game against the Soviets, the school said in a statement this morning.

Knight, hit with three technical fouls in Saturday's game against the touring Soviet National team, pulled his team off the court about five minutes into the second half after he was ejected from the game. Knight had protested what he said was a lane violation that was ignored by officials during free throws taken by a Soviet player. The Soviets were declared winners by forfeit, 66-43.
