San Diego Arts. : Music

November 25, 1987|KENNETH HERMAN

- In this month's "International Musician," the national trade paper of union musicians, the San Diego Symphony announced auditions in January for 14 positions.

In advertisements placed by other orchestras, the names of a prestigious conductor--Previn, Solti, Maazel--adorned each orchestra's logo, and some offered such luxuries such as seven-week vacations. The San Diego Symphony, however, was back selling the one local asset no crisis can diminish--good weather.

"Take your seat with the San Diego Symphony and enjoy a dynamic, growing city and its varied quality-of-life attractions, ideal climate and revitalized symphony orchestra," the ad said.
